Irv's is a family friendly store that has been helping people enjoy their Rock, Gem and Jewelry related hobbies for over 30 years. Our customers are busy people living life to the fullest and because we are also a fully operating lapidary shop, we can get them to the FUN with the least number of steps. We are frequently told, the guidance we provide is very helpful. But, best of all, we love hearing about, or seeing them rewarded for their efforts with an amazing find or a perfectly finished piece of jewelry. We enjoy serving folks that are interested in feeding their passions when it comes to Rock hounding, Gem collecting, and or making Jewelry. Then...
Irv Pils grew up in the small town of Grangeville Idaho. With eleven kids in the family, the adventures were many. He loved dancing, fishing, skiing and everything else that went with a small knit community. He especially loved the outdoors. He told the story of his Mother taking him to the local Doctor, concerned with his slumping shoulders. The Doctor had no answers for her until he saw young Irv walking down the steet stuffing the pockets of his bib overalls with rocks.
With the support and encouragement of his wife Diana, Irv fulfilled his childhood love of rocks and opened our first store in 1980. Prior to that he had taught himself to cut Gemstones and make Jewelry. He filled the store with chunks of Amber, Quartz, and Gemstones, many of which he cut and polished himself. "You just meet the nicest people" he would always say. He loved every part of Rock hounding, Gem cutting and Jewelry making. Over the years he taught many people to cut gems, providing years of enjoyment for them too, and quickly developed a reputation of excellance in Gem cutting and Jewelry Design.
